| Example 1:One: Hello and welcome to your E 4 ME course! You made it! My name is FIRST LAST and I will be your instructor during this four week course. I hope you find it to be an enjoyable experience and a useful opportunity to learn a lot of information about online learning. This self-paced course is designed for you to work your way through it with guidance from me. When you first log in to the course, on the “Home Page,” you will find a “Course Schedule” with a suggested timeframe for taking the course. Depending on your schedule, you may want to move at a faster or slower pace, but keep in mind that this class ends on DATE. As you enter the classroom, please remember to click on “Orientation” on the Home Page and review the “Computer Requirements” and the “Navigation” video, which is located within “Orientation Videos.” To get us started, I would like everyone to finish Unit One and post an autobiography on the “Discussions” board no later than DATE. As you read others’ autobiographies please comment, just as you would in a classroom or at a meeting. If you need technical help, pleasebe sure to take a look at the FAQs (frequently asked questions) at: http://www.e4meohio.org/e4_faq.php and send an e-mail to Katieme or to Gail SmithPeters using the “Mail” tool in your course. To practice this, send KatieGail an e-mail now and include me in the "Send To" field. You will find both of our names and e-mail addresses listed under the “Browse for Recipients” button. Good luck with the course and please let me know if I can help you in any way. All the best, Instructor’s Name |
| Example 2: Hello and welcome to your E 4 ME course! You made it! My name is FIRST LAST and I will be your instructor during this four week course. I hope you find it to be an enjoyable experience and a useful opportunity to learn a lot of information about online learning. This course is designed to be self-paced. You can work at your own speed and at a time convenient for you. When you first log in to the course, on the “Home Page,” you will see an area titled “Course Schedule.” This schedule suggests a timeframe for you to follow in order to complete the course on time—keep in mind that this class ends on DATE. Depending on your schedule, you may want to work at a faster or slower pace. Try to log on everyday if you can but, if you cannot, then make sure you do so several times a week. Otherwise, you will start to fall behind. One of the first things you should do before beginning the Course Content is to click on “Orientation” on the Home Page and review the “Computer Requirements” and the “Navigation” video, which is located within “Orientation Videos.” This will help you make sure that your computer is set up properly and it will also familiarize you with how the course works. In addition to reading through the course content and doing the assignments and quizzes, please be sure to check your e-mail and the discussion area frequently. E-mail and discussion are the two primary means of communication in this course. If you are reading this message, then you already know how to check your mail. There will also be an assignment in the Introduction section of the course content that will require you to send me an e-mail with answers to some questions. After the e-mail assignment, in Unit One you will be asked to post your autobiography in the discussion area—please complete this no later than DATE. When you click on “Discussions” at the top of the page, you will find that I have already posted my autobiography. Please feel free to respond and/or comment to mine and to the other students who will be posting their autobiographies. In an online course, you do not get to meet the other students in your class face-to-face. The discussion area is a great way for students to get to know each other, and you may find that you have things in common with some of the other students. You will also find that they are just as busy and active as you are. Remember, the discussion area is seen by everyone in the course but, when you send an e-mail, only the person(s) you send it to can see it. If at anytime during the course you have technical problems or have difficulty accessing information, justbe sure to take a look at the FAQs (frequently asked questions) at: http://www.e4meohio.org/e4_faq.php and send an e-mail to Katie Smith. Sheme isor ourto technicalGail “guru”Peters. andShe will assistalso yoube asavailable bestto sheassist can.you. In fact, it would be a good idea to send herGail an e-mail at the start of the course just to say “hi” and introduce yourself. You will find her listed among the list of students when you click on the “Browse for Recipients” button in your e-mail message. This is also where you will find my name and e-mail address. All e-mail is “internal” to the course. We will not be using external e-mail. Good luck with the course and please let me know if I can help you in any way. All the best, Instructor’s Name |
